A NEW MACHINE HAS LANDED

I finally talked myself into it - spending more than a car (well, a very small, quite old car) on a metal detector in my first year was not really on my radar at the start of this hobby. I decided it is simply not efficient to walk the fields for hours each day with anything other than the best equipment money can buy. So I have waved goodbye to my trusty NOKTA Legend and bought the XP DEUS II from LP Metal Detecting. It arrived within 48 hours, beautifully boxed and accompanied. by the wireless headphones. I’ve watched my detecting buddy use this machine. With its sensitive read of the ground he seems to have a confidence that he’s not missing anything. I want a bit of that!

Unboxing was (I won’t lie) overwhelming. I know I have months of getting to know this machine ahead. A manual that I can’t even face opening, three charging cables, and components I hardly recognise. I call in the troops (aka my detecting buddy @chasing.staters) - he kindly set me up with a bunch of simple settings and puts the machine together. I’m blown away by its beautiful, simple design, quality lightweight materials sliding neatly into its stem like a space craft.

I’ve had this machine running for a couple of weeks now and I can say I’ve already noticed a number of clear differences for my detecting that 100% warrant the extra investment:

  1. it has a generous, broad swing, covering about 50% more ground

  2. it has a sophisticated weight-balanced design, which makes the DEUS II feel lighter in the hand

  3. its visual XY graphic is telling me the composition of the material under the surface, and most importantly what not to dig, saving time and ensuring success

I still haven’t opened the manual - that’s one for the right moment. I’ve been over some old ground with the machine and whilst I haven’t yet found anything outstanding that the Legend hadn’t picked up, I do feel the overall user experience is superior, and I feel more confidence that I’m going to walk over something sensational, thin, silver or gold….and pick it up.

if you’re having a kit rethink like me, I recommend LP Metal Detecting - they have a neat 1 minute Detector Selector tool to help you to narrow your search by budget, type of terrain etc. They’ve got the full gambit of accessories and kit to get your gear into tip top shape. When you use the magic word MISSDETECTORIST you also get 10% off selected lines! Result.
