GEAR CHAT

This is the current kit I use for metal detecting. All the items on this list I’ve paid for and used myself - I’m not sponsored by any particular detector brand, so I can try out all the gear, and my experiences with these items are completely impartial. For helpful advice go to LP Metal Detecting here to explore all detectors, headphones and accessories. You get 10% off selected lines when you use my code MISSDETECTORIST at checkout. Here’s the kit I use myself:

Metal detector /// XP DEUS II metal detector - I think its fantastic. If I was starting again on a lower budget, I’d try the XP DEUS or XP DEUS Lite.

Headphones /// Mine are the XP WSA II XL Wireless Headphones, compatible with the XP DEUS II. The alternative pair is the back phone XP WSA II Wireless Headphones but I wanted a traditional ‘over the head’ pair which work well under a hood, over a hat, and with a ponytail.

Pin-pointer /// GARRETT Pro-Pointer AT - the best, in my humble opinion. And bright orange, so hard to lose. To make it even harder to leave behind, I recommend a stretch lanyard to attach it to your finds pouch or belt.

Shovel /// NOKTA Premium Shovel (breaks into two parts for carrying in a backpack). Good value, serrated blades require very little effort to cut through even rooty soil.

Trowel /// NOKTA Digging Tool.

Finds pouch hip belt /// NOKTA Finds Pouch in camo. Machine washable and quick dry. Deep roomy pockets with zips. Have tried others but return to this. Simple and inexpensive but practical.

Coin and artefact storage /// SEARCHER Coin Pod and Artefact Storage Case - both handy out in the field, foam lined, keep all your finds safe until you get home to clean them. SEARCHER finds mat - a useful measuring guide and white background for photography.

Gloves /// I use SHOWA Nitrile protective gloves. These are the most dextrous and good fitting of the gloves, which is a bonus when handling tiny items. I buy these in packs of 10. They are machine washable but its good to carry spare clean and dry pairs in the car and in your finds pouch.
